Overview
There is much research that supports the incorporation of a Preceptorship program to increase retention rates of clinical staff. This preceptor training will provide current clinicians with the necessary tools for becoming a preceptor in order to help with the onboarding and professional development of new BH employees. Clinicians will learn the expectations and role of a preceptor, understand various different teaching/learning styles, and learn the effective delivery of feedback. Participants will also be provided hands-on experience in developing a 30, 60, 90 day onboarding plan and specific orientation checklist.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Define and explain the roles and responsibilities of a Preceptor during onboarding and clinician development
  2. Apply principles for delivering and receiving feedback and demonstrate understanding through peer role-play and feedback reflection exercises.
  3. apply teaching strategies for different learning styles by completing and discussing personal VARK results.
  4. Describe 1-2 strategies to assist with the professional development of new clinical staff by engaging in discussion with leaders to review, develop, or update 30-60-90 Day Goals and Competencies Checklist for their program.
  5. Utilize strategies to improve communication among the healthcare team

Accreditation
In support of improving patient care, Nationwide Children's Hospital is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC),  and the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), to provide continuing medical education for the healthcare team.
