This activity provides a detailed overview of the standardized rooming-in process designed to support consistent, family-centered care throughout the inpatient stay. It includes a review of the updated discharge policy to ensure alignment with current clinical expectations and regulatory requirements. Participants will examine the complete set of supporting materials, including the family information letter, door cling signage, and the competency-based skills checklists used to guide nursing practice. Additionally, the activity introduces the new Epic documentation fields created to streamline workflow, enhance communication, and accurately capture rooming-in–related care activities. Together, these components form a unified approach aimed at improving patient outcomes, strengthening caregiver engagement, and promoting safe, efficient transitions to home.

1. Identify the responsibilities of each member of the healthcare team in preparing families to discharge home with a child with complex medical needs.
2. Understand the standardized rooming-in process, including eligibility decision tree, family information letter, skills checklist, and Epic documentation.

In support of improving patient care, Nationwide Children's Hospital is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC),  and the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), to provide continuing medical education for the healthcare team.

Cancellation Policy

Cancellations received in writing no less than 20 days before the course will be refunded, less a 20% administrative fee. No refunds will be made on cancellations received after that date. Please send cancellation requests to [email protected].

Nationwide Children's Hospital reserves the right to cancel or postpone this program if necessary; in the event of cancellation, course fees will be fully refunded. We are not responsible for other costs incurred such as non-refundable airline tickets or hotel penalties.
