Overview

This statewide conference unites sexual assault nurse examiners (SANEs), legal professionals, law enforcement, child protective services, and multidisciplinary team members dedicated to improving the response to child abuse. Together, participants will move beyond the basics: advancing trauma-informed knowledge, strengthening forensic and investigative expertise, and enhancing collaboration across systems. Through interactive sessions, case reviews, and panels, attendees will explore innovative practices, share perspectives, and build stronger partnerships to ensure Ohio’s children and families receive the highest standard of care.

Target Audience: This conference is designed for PSANE or forensic nurses, social workers, counselors, physicians, law enforcement, legal counsel, multidisciplinary team members and those engaging in work in child maltreatment.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Enhance advanced clinical skills by analyzing complex pediatric sexual assault and non-accidental injury cases, including mimics and sentinel injuries.
  2. Strengthen interdisciplinary collaboration among medical, legal, and social work professionals to improve outcomes for children and families.
  3. Address emerging trends and challenges in child exploitation, digital evidence, human trafficking, and trauma-informed care.
  4. Advance legal and ethical knowledge regarding consent, confidentiality, and adolescent autonomy in forensic examinations.
  5. Promote youth-centered, problem-solving approaches that engage caregivers and support resilience in pediatric patients.
