Overview

The 2026 Pediatric Asthma Conference and Pre-Conference Food Allergy Symposium will highlight emerging information and practical advice regarding asthma and food allergy management for providers, allied health staff, and community workers across all levels of care. This conference is designed for pediatricians, family practitioners, nurses, respiratory therapists, social workers, pharmacists, and clinical staff from the hospital, urgent care, primary care, and school facilities with students/patients who have asthma and allergies.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Enhance collaboration among healthcare professionals to improve team-based care delivery.
  2. Examine current evidence-based strategies for the diagnosis, treatment, and community management of food allergy, including emerging therapies and multidisciplinary approaches.
  3. Differentiate between common myths, misconceptions, and scientific evidence regarding the causes, prevention, and treatment of food allergy.
  4. Evaluate the psychosocial impact of living with food allergy on children and families and identify supportive interventions to improve quality of life.
  5. Identify the clinical manifestations of anaphylaxis and apply appropriate emergency response protocols to ensure timely and effective treatment.
  6. Describe the pathophysiology, clinical features, and management of eosinophilic gastrointestinal diseases and non-Ige-mediated food allergy.
  7. Recognize common barriers to medication adherence in pediatric asthma and apply discipline-specific strategies to include counseling, device and medication education, and follow-up coordination to improve patient outcomes across various care settings.
  8. Outline the principles of SMART and AIR therapy and their clinical applications in pediatric asthma.
  9. Analyze the impact of environmental air quality on asthma control in children, and demonstrate how providers can integrate air quality awareness into patient education, school health plans, and clinical decision-making.
  10. Summarize the effects of smoke exposure, including vaping, cigarettes, and marijuana, on pediatric patients, and outline provider-specific approaches to prevention, screening, and cessation counseling.
  11. Apply teach-back techniques to enhance health literacy and ensure effective communication of asthma management plans, tailored to the needs of caregivers and pediatric patients in both clinical and community settings.
