Overview

This symposium will showcase state-of-the-art mechanistic insights and management strategies for kidney and urological complications in pediatric oncology. It will feature cutting-edge approaches and address gaps in early risk detection and timely intervention to improve cancer treatment tolerability, long-term outcomes, and quality of life

Target Audience: Physicians, providers, and researchers in nephrology, urology, pharmacology, oncology, hematology, and bone marrow transplant (BMT)

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Identify signs and characteristics of acute and long-term kidney and urological complications in pediatric patients with cancer
  2. Assess how cancer and anti-cancer therapies can result on kidney and urological complications
  3. Implement strategies that reduce the implications of kidney and urological complications on pediatric oncology patients' care
  4. Identify emerging approaches to prevent or mitigate acute kidney injury and chronic kidney disease
  5. Analyze how anti-cancer therapies can be maximized by nephroprotective approaches
  6. Assess the impact of kidney complications and urological complications on patients and caregivers
  7. Strengthen interprofessional communication and collaboration among oncology, nephrology, urology, nursing, and allied health teams to ensure coordinated, patient-centered strategies for early detection, prevention, and management of kidney and urological complications in pediatric cancer care.

Welcome

The scientific committee of the 2026 Kidney and Urinary Tract Symposium, focusing on the field of Onco-nephrology “The Kidney-Cancer Connection: Translating Research into Clinical Impact” invites submissions of original research abstracts for poster presentation at the meeting on March 19 and 20, 2026.

Abstract submissions for poster presentations must be received by January 31st, 2026 , and authors will be notified of acceptance no later than February 15, 2026. All presenters must be registered to attend the conference in person (not virtually). Full submission guidelines are available on the submission site.

The goal of this symposium is to highlight state-of-the art mechanisms and management strategies for kidney complications and urological complications in pediatric oncology. The symposium will address practice gaps in early identification of at-risk patients, understanding kidney and urological complications across diverse clinical scenarios, and implementing timely protective interventions.  These strategies aim to enhance the tolerability of cancer therapies, reduce long-term kidney and urological complications, and ultimately improve patient outcomes and quality of life. The interactive conference program highlights the latest clinical and scientific advances in this growing field. Our program will include a combination of expert presentations, panel discussions, research abstract presentations, and social events to facilitate learning, networking, and collaboration. We expect to attract participants from across the nation with both in-person events and a virtual platform allowing full engagement of remote attendees.

Instructions

The poster session aims to enhance attendees’ understanding of the impact of cancer and modern anti-cancer therapies on acute and long-term kidney and urological complications in pediatric patients. It will also emphasize nephroprotective strategies that can optimize cancer treatment, improve patient tolerability, and support the quality of life of children, adolescent, and young adults with cancer. Abstracts will be selected primarily based on their educational value for conference attendees.

Abstract Categories Include:

  • Basic Science and Preclinical Research
  • Translational Research
  • Clinical Research
  • Case Series
  • Relevant Case Reports
  • Quality improvement projects

Projects may have been presented previously in poster or printed form. There is no restriction on publication or embargo on abstracts accepted for this meeting.

Authors of accepted abstracts will be provided an invitation from conference organizers to present their work. A minimum of one (1) author must be present at the conference in Columbus, Ohio on March 19-20, 2026, to participate in the poster session. If accepted, all travel costs will be the responsibility of the submitting author.

A select set of abstracts will also be chosen for oral presentation in Lightning Round format - 1 minute presentation with 1 accompanying slide. Questions can be taken by the presenter during the poster session.
