Suicide Prevention Caregiver Training - Youth Suicide Prevention in the Historical Black Church - 8/27/25 - 6:00 - 7:30pm

The historical Black Church has played a central support role in the American Black community for hundreds of years. Its clergy and leaders have often been the first responders to crises within the Black community as well. As a result, the Black Church is positioned to play a significant role in efforts to reduce the rates of suicide among Black youth—a youth population that presented with a 37% increase in suicide deaths between 2018 and 2021. After attending this training, attendees will be able to:
- Describe key terms, research, warning signs, and risk factors for suicide among youth and, specifically, Black Youth.
- Summarize the intersection between the racialized experience and cognitive and environmental drivers of suicide among Black Youth.
- Implement at least two interventions that can actively help with suicide prevention for youth within the Black church.
