Overview

Conference is an in-person conference that is directed to presenting clinical updates and research discoveries for the otolaryngologic care of children. This one-day meeting will include expert panels, multidisciplinary discussions, and strategies to improve quality of care of children.

Learning Objectives:
1. The participant will be able to discuss the current state of gene therapy.
2. The participant will explain considerations for gene therapy clinical trials.
3. The participant will be able to state the diagnostic processes for congenital CMV in the NICU setting.
4. The participant will be able to summarize potential management options for congenital CMV patients who are symptomatic for hearing loss.
5. The participant will be able to describe the appropriate evaluation and management of speech and language disorders in children from multilingual backgrounds who are deaf/heard of hearing.
6. The participant will be able to describe key features that suggest language difference vs disorder in children from multilingual backgrounds who are deaf/heard of hearing.
7. The participant will be able to discuss the basic understanding of machine learning approaches that can help with medical image analysis.
8. The participant will be able to discuss the value of clinical decision support tools in improving diagnosis of ear disease.
9. The participant will be able to describe the GI and ENT workup with common upper airway problems.
10. The participant will be able to discuss the role of the gastroenterologist and ENT surgeon in children with pediatric feeding disorder.
11. The participant will be able to list basic airway anatomy.
12. The participant will be able to list the benefits of a multidisciplinary approach to complex aerodigestive disorders.
13. The participant will be able to discuss the patients who will most benefit from evaluation and management in the Pediatric Aerodigestive Disorders Clinic.
14. The participant will be able to review and state the role of clinic nursing staff and strategies to enhance competencies for patient care.
15. The participant will be able to discuss strategies for managing clinic flow in a high-volume surgical clinic.
16. The participant will be able to discuss patient care in subspecialty areas beyond the clinic visit.
17. The participant will be able to apply information from topics and discussions presented throughout the symposium to encourage retention of information while working with other disciplines and team building during an interactive game.
18. The participant will be able to discuss the current regenerative limitations to head and neck reconstruction.
19. The participant will be able to state potential regenerative solutions to soft tissue and bone regeneration.
20. The participant will be able to state current innovations developed within the Pediatric Otolaryngology Department at Nationwide Children’s Hospital.
21. The participant will be able to discuss different innovation pathways that have been successful, to inform how the learner may develop their own ideas at Nationwide Children’s Hospital.
