Overview

This training is part of the Partners for Kids-Behavioral Health Education Series! Registration is intended for Partners for Kids providers. A Zoom link and further instructions will be sent closer to the actual training date.

This series provides participants with the opportunity to learn from internal experts in the behavioral health field. Relevant behavioral health topics and evidence-based practice tools are presented in a monthly lecture format.

Description: This presentation continues to focus on understanding and changing problem behavior through a circumstances-based approach. It emphasizes the importance of teaching skills and altering circumstances to positively influence behavior. The presentation covers various aspects of behavior intervention planning, including assessment strategies, consideration of influencing factors, and making comprehensive recommendations. It will delve into preventative strategies, skill-building techniques, and the best ways to respond when problem behavior occurs. By integrating scientific principles with practical strategies and guiding attendees through a case example, this presentation aims to effectively address and modify problem behaviors.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Learn how environmental and contextual factors influence behavior and the importance of addressing these factors in behavior intervention.
  2. Account for influencing factors, including environmental, social, physical, and emotional conditions, and incorporate trauma-informed care to tailor and create safe and effective recommendations.
  3. Understand and utilize simple assessment methods, such as indirect and descriptive assessments, to determine the function of problem behaviors and inform effective intervention strategies.
  4. Understand and implement at least 2 preventative strategies to help reduce problem behavior.
  5. Be able to list several replacement skills to teach in place of occurring problem behavior.
  6. Specify the best ways to respond to problem behavior, including differentiated strategies for treatment situations versus crisis situations.
