Overview
QI Bootcamp is designed as a 1-day training session on tools used for Quality Improvement at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. attendees are grouped into work teams of 5-6 by department leadership prior to the event, and one QI problem/gap is worked through by each team throughout the day. The teaching format uses the LEARN-DO-TEACH model: - Participants learn the tool from the facilitator - Then do by immediately putting the tool into practice within their workgroups - Post-event, participants take the learnings back to their teams within their department and teach by leading and engaging others in QI efforts. At the end of each QI Bootcamp, each work team has worked through the seven steps of a QI project and drafted a Key Driver Diagram (KDD) including an aim statement, key drivers and prioritized interventions which are then continued on after the event through the project’s sustain period.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Describe tools that can be used to initiate and complete an effective quality improvement effort
  2. Demonstrate an understanding of control charts and statistical process control used in quality improvement activities
  3. Improve the department’s Quality Improvement portfolio through the initiation or furthering of a QI project
