Overview

This training is part of the Partners for Kids-Behavioral Health Education Series! Registration is intended for Partners for Kids providers. A Zoom link and further instructions will be sent closer to the actual training date.

Description: As behavioral health professionals who are or will be supervisors, we have a unique opportunity to be effective change agents in combating discriminatory systems as we promote the safety and wellbeing of our patients, ourselves, our next generation of professionals, and our communities. A key supervision competency toward this goal is developing fluency in promoting awareness of privilege and implicit bias in ourselves and our supervisees. This training will focus on enhancing supervisors’ strategies for continually building awareness of how privilege and bias impacts the relationship between supervisor and supervisee, as well as that between supervisee and patient.

Training Category: Supervision (trainings for those in the process of earning their supervisor credential, providing trainee supervision or otherwise supervising staff).

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Identify the intersectionality of diversity elements and how they can sustain or even amplify implicit bias.
  2. Identify specific strategies to identify implicit bias in a supervisor’s own work, and to foster a supervisee’s ability to both self-identify and to receive and provide feedback related to implicit bias.
  3. Discuss techniques to be used in supervision that deliberately increase both parties’ ability to engage in crucial conversations that combat the impact of privilege and bias in behavioral health care.
  4. Identify at least two actions step in one’s individual lifelong learning plan that advances the ability to infuse and integrate appreciation for the dimensions of diversity in all elements of practice and supervision.

Accreditation
In support of improving patient care, Nationwide Children's Hospital is accredited by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC),  the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for the healthcare team.
