Overview
EMG Pearls is a recurring lecture series centered on the electrophysiologic methods and evaluation utilized in the diagnosis of common neuromuscular conditions including neuropathy, myopathy, motor neuron disease, and neuromuscular junction disorders. The basics of nerve conduction studies and electromyography are reviewed annually, and then within each specific lecture session a neuromuscular topic is explored from the standpoint of relevant anatomy, clinical history, and neurophysiologic findings. Case-based learning is incorporated throughout the series to encourage critical thinking and reinforce the material being reviewed.

Objectives
  1. Describe the indications for the use of nerve conduction studies and EMG in the diagnosis of disorders of the nervous system.
  2. lnterpret patterns of nerve conduction study and EMG findings in neuromuscular disorders.
  3. Identify and appropriately localize neuromuscular abnormalities based on the nerve conduction studies and EMG.
  4. Recognize the limitations of nerve conduction studies and EMG in evaluating disorders of the nervous system.

Accreditation
In support of improving patient care, Nationwide Children's Hospital is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC),  and the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), to provide continuing medical education for the healthcare team.
