Overview

This training is part of the Partners for Kids-Behavioral Health Education Series! Registration is intended for Partners for Kids providers. A Zoom link and further instructions will be sent closer to the actual training date.

Description: Clients with high functioning ASD can be successfully maintained in typical outpatient treatment settings when practitioners have the knowledge and confidence to do so. Many practitioners already have a great foundational knowledge of CBT, and with some adaptations to typical CBT can lead clients with ASD and their families to successful outcomes. This training will help practitioners to better understand ASD and adapt their current skills to meet the unique needs of children/adolescents with ASD. Learners will increase their comfort and skill with the “B” in CBT and will gain more knowledge of the different programs and services available to help support clients with this diagnosis.

Training Category: General (Training topic and content is applicable to staff with a broad range of education and experience).

Registration closes on Monday May 10th at 11:00pm.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. articulate increased understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), without intellectual disability, and the impact of this diagnosis on the presentation of co-morbid mental health diagnoses.
  2. describe a framework and methods to adapt CBT interventions for use with individuals with autism without intellectual disability.
  3. list basic adaptations to risk assessment and safety planning intervention, when safety concerns present in a client with ASD.

Accreditation
In support of improving patient care, Nationwide Children's Hospital is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC),  and the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), to provide continuing medical education for the healthcare team.
