Pediatric and neonatal based education specifically tailored to the EMS community, and pre-hospital providers. Topics include seizure management, trauma, neonatal resuscitation, and pediatric assessment skills. Topics are covered by physicians, transport clinicians, and NCH EMS providers.

At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Define child maltreatment and neglect.
  2. Describe bruising patterns in pediatric population.
  3. Review abusive head trauma in infants.
  4. Review steps of managing a delivery and newborn assessment.
  5. Identify and treat cardiopulmonary failure in neonate.
  6. Review the importance of maternal history.
  7. Review current NRP 9th edition guidelines as they pertain to the prehospital provider.
  8. Briefly discuss epidemiology of pediatric trauma.
  9. Review pediatric trauma assessment.
  10. Overview and treatment shock in pediatric trauma.
  11. Overview and treatment head injury in pediatric trauma.
  12. Define risk factors for pediatric burns.
  13. Categorize and define burn injuries.
  14. Describe general pediatric burn management.
  15. Describe the pathophysiology of epileptic seizures and pseudo seizures.
  16. Perform a thorough assessment of a patient exhibiting seizure-like activity.
  17. Differentiate between epileptic seizures and pseudo seizures based on assessment findings.
  18.    Formulate treatment plans for epileptic seizures, pseudo seizures, and combined presentations.
  19. Review pediatric fever parameters and febrile emergencies
  20. recognize elements of pediatric assessment
