Overview

Join Us for a Day of Learning, Discovery, and Connection

You are invited to join us for an afternoon of connection and community building for Nationwide Children’s Hospital patients and families living with rare, diet-related metabolic disorders. This is a great opportunity to meet others with the same or similar conditions, find a support group, and attend educational sessions containing both practical and fun topics relevant to navigating life with a complex condition.  Our goal is to create a welcoming space where people feel included, families feel supported, and everyone leaves with new connections. This event is family-friendly and will have activities available for all ages. 

Who Should Attend:

Patients, parents, caregivers, and family members affected by diet-related inborn errors of metabolism, including phenylketonuria (PKU); fatty acid oxidation disorders (MCAD, LCHAD, VLCAD); glycogen storage diseases; urea cycle disorders; galactosemia; homocystinuria; maple syrup urine disease; propionic acidemia; methylmalonic acidemia; isovaleric acidemia; tyrosinemia; glutaric acidemia type 1; and others.

How to Participate

There is no charge to attend, but registration is required and includes:

  • Instruction and interaction with medical experts

  • Conference material handouts

  • Light snacks and beverages

  • Hosted parking vouchers for the Orange Parking Garage

Each family must register online.  Please include the names of all participants and ages of children only.  If you have not registered for a class previously, you must start by creating an “Account.”  Creating an account is a one-time step and allows us to track individual attendance, prepare collateral materials.

 

Steps to Create an Account for Registration:  

  • Click the Summer Scientist Series link – This takes you to the info overview page

  • Click to the “Register” link at the top of the page

  • Click “Create an Account”

  • Fill in fields with the red asterisk* only (Name, address, phone, email, degree & profession)

  • For required fields related to healthcare profession (e.g., Degree and Profession), please enter “NONE” or “OTHER” as they do not apply.

  • Once account is created, go back into the registration button and complete registration

  • A confirmation email will be sent to all registered participants

Cancellation Policy
Nationwide Children's Hospital reserves the right to cancel or postpone this program if necessary; in the event of cancellation, participants will be notified in writing via email. We are not responsible for other costs incurred such as non-refundable airline tickets or hotel penalties.
