Diabetes Management Education Series 10/9

ANCC Contact Hour(s) (2.75 hours)

This is a three-hour program designed for healthcare professionals. Includes basic diabetes management for adults who care for children with diabetes. Upon completion, learners will be able to provide safe and appropriate diabetes care in the school, day care and home settings.

1. Describe the pathophysiology differences between type 1 and type 2 diabetes
2. Define what target range means in diabetes
3. Identify the appropriate use of blood glucose meters and continuous glucose monitors in testing glucose values
4. Define basal-bolus insulin therapy
5. Utilize insulin-to-carb  (ICR) to calculate insulin bolus for food accurately
6. Utilize correction factor to accurately calculate glucose correction doses
7. Identify appropriate use of insulin pens and insulin pumps
8. Identify causes, signs, and symptoms of hypoglycemia
9. Describe prevention and treatment of hypoglycemia, including use of glucagon
10. Identify causes, signs, and symptoms of hyperglycemia
11. Describe prevention and treatment of hyperglycemia, including ketone management
12. Identify causes, signs, and symptoms of DKA, including the need for emergency care
13. State how to contact NCH for guidance

Cancellations received in writing no less than 20 days before the course will be refunded, less a 20% administrative fee. No refunds will be made on cancellations received after that date. Please send cancellation requests to [email protected].
