“Catch Me If You Can: The Impaired Provider” is a riveting account of Rodrigo and Claudia Garcia’s personal journey through diversion, substance use disorder, treatment, and professional reentry as an impaired health care provider. The program will discuss diversion from the workplace by the addicted professional along with personal experiences working within a healthcare setting, the result of a dependency on prescription medications following a surgery. "Upstream Solutions: Managing Diversion in Healthcare" is the follow up program to the nationally presented and recognized, "Catch Me If You Can: The Impaired Provider." Being uniquely positioned to interface directly with thousands of diverting health care providers, Rigo, Claudia and their team have identified trends in diversion that consistently span across specialties, geographic locations, and socioeconomic levels. By taking a clinical approach to understating the psychology of diversion, the presenters are able to provide a unique insight to understanding why diversion occurs and more importantly, how to manage it.

1. Examine 3 diversion techniques often used by impaired professionals in healthcare settings.
2. Recognize at least 5 common characteristics of an addicted healthcare professional.
3. Explain the ethical and professional responsibility for diversion reporting.
4. Examine the top 3 reasons why healthcare providers divert from their employer.
5. Differentiate internal and external threats of diversion.
6. Incorporate 3 changes into daily practice to minimize the likelihood of diversion within the unit or facility.
