Overview
Please join us for the 41st Annual School Health Conference: Featuring Hands-On School Nursing Skills hosted by Nationwide Children’s Hospital, a leading pediatric care facility and research institute. At Nationwide Children’s, we help kids everywhere and provide life-saving research and care. This year’s conference will highlight dynamic speakers on topics such as childhood grief, situational awareness, diabetes and asthma education, and much more. Participants of this conference will also have access to hands-on skills sessions in the simulation center. We encourage school nurses, school administration and other public health professionals involved in caring for children and families through schools to attend.

ANCC Learning Outcomes
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Identify new evidence-based practices in pediatric care that support student health.
  2. Integrate updated practices in pediatric care into the day-to-day care for students in the school setting.
  3. Recognize the difference school nurses and other professionals can make in advancing equity in health care for all children.
  4. Implement practical skill-based competencies through hands-on learning.

Registration

General Session Descriptions:

  • When Children Grieve - This session explores how children experience grief related to loss, offering practical strategies to support them during these challenging times. Attendees will learn ways to identify the impact of grief in children's lives and gain insights into fostering healing and resilience.

  • Standing Tall: Understanding POTS Syndrome - Join us for an insightful presentation centered around Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS) designed to raise awareness, deepen understanding, and offer valuable resources for those living with or supporting individuals affected by POTS.

  • Situational Awareness Training - This training equips school personnel with the skills to recognize, assess, and respond effectively to potential threats or emergencies within the school environment. Participants will learn strategies to enhance their awareness of surroundings, identify suspicious behaviors or situations, and make informed decisions to ensure the safety of students, staff, and visitors.

Morning Breakout Session Descriptions:

This session will highlight the importance of safeguarding children, the legal and ethical responsibilities involved, and the procedures for making a report.

  • Navigating the Spectrum: Gender Diverse Youth in Education - This presentation explores the complexities of gender development, highlighting how societal biases shape perceptions of gender and influence individual experience. We will discuss the impact of these biases on youth, especially in relation to mental health, and explore strategies for fostering a supportive environment that promotes positive self-identity and well-being. By understanding gender development and addressing biases, we can create spaces where young people feel empowered to thrive emotionally and psychologically.

  • Crossing State Lines: The Path to Multistate Licensure - This Category A presentation will delve into the concept of multistate licensure, a valuable pathway for professionals seeking to practice across state lines with greater flexibility. Attendees will gain a comprehensive understanding of the multistate licensing process, its benefits, and the challenges involved. **If you attended this session in 2024, you cannot claim credit for it again in 2025**
