Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Dissect what is known about sport participation and injuries in adaptive athletes and navigate future research in injury epidemiology in adaptive athletes.
  2. Identify adapted basketball chair configuration differences for those with amputation versus neurological needs.
  3. Identify various types of adapted soccer games and pathways for athlete development.
  4. Demonstrate evidence-based use of 3D motion analysis aimed at enhancing participation in physical activity and sports for children with impaired mobility.
  5. Demonstrate skills of recognition, assessment and treatment of injuries in athletes with disabilities and recognize the importance of developing and practicing an emergency action plan to ensure the multidisciplinary team understands their role in providing care.
  6. Improve participation and communication among all members of the healthcare team.

Accreditation

In support of improving patient care, Nationwide Children's Hospital is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing medical education for the healthcare team.

Medicine CME
Nationwide Children’s Hospital designates this live activity for a maximum of 5.75 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Physician Assistants
Nationwide Children's Hospital has been authorized by the American Academy of PAs (AAPA) to award AAPA Category 1 CME credit for activities planned in accordance with AAPA CME Criteria.   This activity is designated for 5.75 AAPA Category 1 CME credits. Approval is valid for 2 Years from the date of the activity.  PAs should only claim credit commensurate with the extent  of their participation.

Athletic Trainers
Nationwide Children’s Hospital (BOC AP#: P3772) is approved by the Board of Certification, Inc. to provide continuing education to certified Athletic Trainers.  This program is eligible for a maximum of 5.75 Category A CEUs. ATs should claim only those hours actually spent in the educational program.

Occupational Therapists
Nationwide Children’s Hospital designates this live activity for a maximum of 5.75 continuing education credits through the OOTA. Occupational Therapists should claim only the credits commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Physical Therapists
Application submitted to the OPTA for continuing education credit.

Recreational Therapists
