Please join us for the 2024 Inaugural Ohio EMS for Children Conference. Children have unique needs requiring specialized emergency care. The keynote speaker, Joseph Wright, MD, MPH, FAAP, chief health equity officer for the American Academy of Pediatrics, will discuss how health equity and disparities impact pediatric emergency care. Additional subject matter experts will explore how best to provide high-quality emergency care for children. There will be an Ohio EMSC Clinical Saves Award Program over lunch, followed by breakout sessions in the afternoon. Attendees can choose from sessions including a Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification/recertification option, low-cost and novel education methods and skills assessment, burn management, disaster readiness, neonatal resuscitation, and quality improvement in the ED and pre-hospital settings.

  • Mental health/behavorial de-escalation 
  • Sepsis/shock 
  • Concussion management 
  • Cannabis ingestion/overdose 
  • Abdominal trauma 
  • Quality improvement and assurance 
  • Novel education methods 
  • Burns workshop 
  • Disaster planning 
  • Neonatal resuscitation workshop 
  • PALS initial or recertification option and hands-on skills (additional cost)

Target Audience 

Our target audience includes healthcare personnel involved in pediatric emergency care such as prehospital/EMS providers and emergency department teams including technicians, nursing staff, advanced practice providers and physicians.


Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Define health equity and describe how health disparities affect pediatric emergency care
  2. Describe activities to improve health equity in pediatric emergency care
  3. Identify barriers and facilitators of QI project success specific to the learner's clinical environment
  4. Develop a SMART aim for a QI project specific to the learner's clinical environment, with small group and instructor feedback
  5. Develop a low cost and novel method of instruction for pediatric education and skills assessment at the learner's home organization
  6. Discuss key interventions for pediatric burn management in the prehospital environment
  7. Discuss key interventions for pediatric burn management in the community ED environment
  8. Differentiate which pediatric burn patients require immediate transfer to a burn center
  9. Identify components of a strong pediatric surge plan and reunification process
  10. Develop a draft pediatric surge plan for the learner's agency or hospital
  11. Develop a draft reunification process for the learner's agency or hospital
  12. Obtain PALS recertification
  13. Demonstrate critical procedural interventions for pediatric resuscitation in a simulation environment
  14. Perform critical initial steps in the resuscitation and stabilization of the neonate
