Event Description:

This is a virtual convening that will take place over Zoom.

Where people live – and the access their communities provide to safe homes, healthy food, quality education, efficient transportation, and good jobs – has a major impact on their health and well-being. In the wake of the COVID-19 crisis, which is disproportionately affecting low-income people and communities of color, physically and economically, it will be more important than ever to strengthen these social determinants of health.

How can health institutions go beyond talking about the social determinants to addressing them effectively?  This conference will bring together some of the nation’s most innovative pioneers on the front lines of this work to show you how to do it. In plenaries and workshops, you will

  • learn from executives who are leading the work, as well as practitioners, partners, and funders,
  • participate in a local immersion experience that will show you what one hospital and its partners have accomplished; and
  • come away with concrete strategies and actions to take back to your communities – and a vision of what is possible.

We will be online for this conference, with Nationwide Children's Hospital staff and partners coming from Columbus, Ohio, home to the Healthy Neighborhoods, Healthy Families Zone (HNHF). HNHF is widely recognized for its innovative approach to affordable housing combined with education, health and wellness, safe and accessible neighborhoods, and workforce development.

Our hosts will be Nationwide Children’s Hospital, which established Healthy Neighborhoods Healthy Families in 2008, and the Center for Community Investment, which supports hospitals to invest in affordable housing through its Accelerating Investment for Healthy Communities Initiative.
