Accreditation

Nationwide Children’s Hospital® Interprofessional Continuing Education (IPCE) Program is Jointly Accredited. This accreditation allows NCH to award national level continuing education credits for medicine, nursing, pharmacy, physician assistants, social work, dentistry and psychology. These include:

  • The Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME)
  • The Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE)
  • The American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC)
  • The Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) and Approved Continuing Education (ACE)
  • The American Academy of PAs (AAPA)
  • The American Psychological Association (APA)
  • The American Dental Association’s Continuing Education Recognition Program (ADA CERP)

Participants will see a combination of accreditation statements on course materials, transcripts and certificates.

Joint Accreditation Statement

In support of improving patient care, Nationwide Children's Hospital is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

Note: For approved activities providing CME credit ONLY, CPE credit ONLY, or CNE credit ONLY, the Joint Accreditation statement and credit mark will be used instead of the discipline specific provider statement and credit mark.

Interprofessional Continuing Education (IPCE)

This activity was planned by and for the healthcare team, and learners will receive Interprofessional Continuing Education (IPCE) credit for learning and change.

Note: Nationwide Children's Hospital may include the Interprofessional Continuing Education (IPCE) credit mark and statement with their IPCE activities in addition to the Joint Accreditation statement. The IPCE credit designation will only be used for activities that have been planned by and for the healthcare team. Use of the IPCE credit is optional but will serve to highlight to learners that the activity has been planned by and for the healthcare team.

The Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) and Approved Continuing Education (ACE)

As a Jointly Accredited Organization, Nationwide Children's Hospital is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Organizations, not individual courses, are approved under this program. State and provincial regulatory boards have the final authority to determine whether an individual course may be accepted for continuing education credit. Nationwide Children's Hospital maintains responsibility for all courses approved to offer Social Work credit.

The American Academy of PAs (AAPA)

Nationwide Children's Hospital has been authorized by the American Academy of PAs (AAPA) to award AAPA Category 1 CME credit for activities planned in accordance with AAPA CME Criteria. PAs should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation.

The American Psychological Association (APA)

Continuing Education (CE) credits for psychologists are provided through the co-sponsorship of the American Psychological Association (APA) Office of Continuing Education in Psychology (CEP). The APA CEP Office maintains responsibly for the content of the programs.

Note: For programs that involve a variety of sessions (e.g., conferences), credit will be awarded on a session-by-session basis. Each individual session for which credit is awarded must meet the Standards and Criteria and activity planners will provide a system for determining which sessions were attended (e.g., sign-in sheet, log). Full attendance is required for all CE activities. Variable credit for partial attendance may not be awarded.

The American Dental Association’s Continuing Education Recognition Program (ADA CERP)

As a Jointly Accredited Provider, Nationwide Children's Hospital is an ADA CERP Recognized Provider. ADA CERP is a service of the American Dental Association to assist dental professionals in identifying quality providers of continuing dental education. ADA CERP does not approve or endorse individual courses or instructors, nor does it imply acceptance of credit hours by boards of dentistry. Nationwide Children's Hospital designates the number of continuing education credits for each activity.

For activities that are interprofessional or focused on a single profession, the IPCE Education Committee will designate that appropriate number of credit is approved/awarded and the Joint Accreditation Statement and or discipline specific statement(s) are posted for learners prior to the start of the educational activity. All activities are subject to audit. Evidence to demonstrate the credit assigned/awarded, activities adhere to credit guidelines and accreditation statements are used as required will be maintained in the activity file.
