2023 Pediatric Otolaryngology Research Symposium

Conference is a hybrid in person / virtual conference that is directed to presenting clinical updates and research discoveries for the otolaryngologic care of children. This one-day meeting will include expert panels, multidisciplinary discussions, and strategies to improve quality of care of children.

1. To describe institutional quality improvement initiatives in pediatric otolaryngology.
2. To understand national quality and safety initiatives in pediatric otolaryngology.
3. To understand the risks of frontal sinus fractures in the acute and delayed setting
4. To differentiate the management of frontal sinus fractures based on severity, location, and extent of injury.
5. To describe what a concussion is and how concussions are managed.
6. To describe the effects of concussion on sensorimotor integration and potential implications for aging.
7. Understand the basic science behind intracochlear electrocochleography
8. Learn about the potential surgical benefits of intracochlear electrocochleography
9. Discuss the non-surgical uses of electrocochleography following cochlear implantation.
10. Recognize unmet need for new therapies for CF patients not eligible for modulator therapies
11. Appreciate the emerging role of cell and gene therapies for treating cystic fibrosis.
12. Become familiar with current use of technology, including implantable devices, for the management of pediatric hearing loss, and variations in practice
13. Become familiar with current means of identification of etiology in pediatric hearing loss, and variations in practice
14. Understand the cause of many chronic rhinosinusitis cases is due to the presence of bacterial biofilms
15. Understand the mechanisms that bacteria within biofilms use to protect themselves from medical interventions and / or host immune responses.

In support of improving patient care, Nationwide Children's Hospital is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC),  and the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), to provide continuing medical education for the healthcare team.
