John D Mahan, MD

John D Mahan, MD, is the Director of the Center for Faculty Development at Nationwide Children’s Hospital (NCH) and member of the NCH GME Executive CommitteeHe serves as Treasurer of the International Pediatric Nephrology Association Council, where he also co-chairs the Professional Education and Finance Committees.  He is a co-founder and presently serves as President of the Board of the Pediatric Nephrology Research Consortium. He also chairs the American Society of Pediatric Nephrology Leadership Development Program.

 

Dr. Mahan received his MD degree from Hahnemann University and completed his Residency in Pediatrics (and Pediatric Chief Residency) and Fellowship in Pediatric Nephrology at the University of Minnesota. At NCH he served as Director of the Pediatric Residency Program from 1990-2019, Director of the Pediatric Nephrology Fellowship Program from 2013-2022 and Director of the Pediatric Nephrology Division from 1999-2005.

 

In addition to his research career focused on pediatric nephrology and innovations in medical education, he is a founder and co-chair of the national Pediatric Resident Burnout-Resilience Study Consortium, and current PI of the HRSA funded pediatric workforce project – Sustaining Trainee Resilience, Engagement, and Meaning (STREAM) – which builds on his and his team’s extensive previous work with trainees and faculty in developing evidence-based methods to promote resilience and wellness in all health care professionals. He recently served as a member of the ACGME Clinical Educator Milestones (CEMs) Working Group and is part of a group of investigators from the CGEA who are collaborating on a series of studies on the value of the ACGME CEMs in faculty development.
