Dr. Shoghik Akoghlanian, MD, is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at The Ohio State University College of Medicine and Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. As a part-time pediatric rheumatologist, she balances clinical care, education, and research. Her primary focus is on providing specialized care to children with rheumatic diseases, particularly autoinflammatory syndromes such as recurrent fever syndromes, lupus, systemic juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA), and macrophage activation syndrome.

In addition to her clinical practice, Dr. Akoghlanian is a dedicated clinical educator, committed to training and mentoring medical students, residents, and fellows. Her research contributions span multiple areas within the Childhood Arthritis and Rheumatology Research Alliance (CARRA), including the Periodic Fever, Aphthous Stomatitis, Pharyngitis, and Adenitis (PFAPA) work group, as well as Kawasaki disease and uveitis. She has been instrumental in the creation and implementation of Consensus Treatment Plans (CTPs) and is involved in both industrial and investigator-initiated international studies. In 2024, she was elected to serve on the CARRA Ethics Committee.

At Nationwide Children’s Hospital, she is involved in clinical pathway development for Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children (MIS-C) and Kawasaki Disease.
