Please join us for our annual NCH CapABLE Employee Resource Group Transition Conference and Resource Fair at Nationwide Children's Hospital Conference Center (520 Butterfly Gardens Drive Columbus, OH 43215).

In 2023, the theme is Building a Foundation for Lifelong Wellness, focusing on the importance and impact of physical health and wellbeing in the disabled population. Educational content will be offered for healthcare providers who support individuals with disabilities as they transition from adolescence to adulthood. Presentation topics will cover physical activity and fitness, nutrition, food education, and more. This year’s keynote speaker will be Dr. Susan Havercamp, Director of the Health Promotion and Healthcare Parity Program at the Ohio State University Nisonger Center, speaking on healthcare disparities and health equity. Attendees will also have the opportunity to visit and gain knowledge from community vendors throughout the resource fair. We look forward to seeing you!

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Recognize the relationship between everyday choices and health outcomes for adults with autism spectrum disorder and developmental disabilities.
  2. Describe health education as a social justice issue for adults with disabilities.
  3. Identify strategies to make healthy choices the easier choice.
  4. Expand on the idea of what physical activity is and incorporate into recommendations.
  5. Recommend a variety of resources and places where individuals can play and engage in physical activity.
  6. Articulate for patients and families how to change behavior and habits for better wellness.
  7. Verbalize the impact of exercise on behavior and quality of life measures for individuals with disabilities.
  8. State the essential elements of an effective exercise program for this population.
  9. Summarize the use of a visual system within an exercise program to improve self-efficiency, physcial fitness, and independence with invidiausl with developmental disabilites.
  10. Explain the importance of food education for those individuals with disabilities transitioning to adult hood.
  11. Name supports and resources to assist individuals work through barriers to food access.

In support of improving patient care, Nationwide Children’s Hospital is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

Medicine CME: Nationwide Children’s Hospital designates this live activity for a maximum of 5.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™.  Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. 

Nationwide Children's Hospital has been authorized by the American Academy of PAs (APPA) to award AAPA Category 1 CME credits for activities planned in accordance with APPA CME Criteria. This activity is designated for 5.0 AAPA Category 1 CME credits. PAs should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation.

As a Jointly Accredited Organization, Nationwide Children's Hospital is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Organizations, not individual courses, are approved under this program. Regulatory boards are the final authority on courses accepted for continuing education credit. Social workers completing this course receive 5.0 general continuing education credits.

Continuing education (CE) credits for psychologists are provided through the co-sponsorship of the American Psychological Association (APA) Office of Continuing Education in Psychology (CEP).  The APA CEP office maintains responsibly for the content of the programs.

 

Nationwide Children’s Sports Medicine is recognized by the Board of Certification, Inc. to offer continuing education for Certified Athletic Trainers (ATs).   This program is eligible for a maximum of (5) Category A hours/CEUs. ATs should claim only those hours actually spent in the educational program.

Cancellations received in writing no less than 20 days before the course will be refunded, less a 20% administrative fee. No refunds will be made on cancellations received after that date. Please send cancellation requests to [email protected].

Exhibitor registration for the Resource Fair is $100 and includes a table for 1 representative in addition to name recognition at the event and in digital marketing for the conference, as available. During registration, additional representatives may be added at the general conference registration rate. Access to electricity in the exhibit hall is limited and available for an additional fee, as available. Please request electricity for your table via email to [email protected].  

Space is limited and the last day to register as an exhibitor is Friday, September 8, 2023.
